Sompo International Holdings (SIH) has named Nicholas Walsh as the new Chairman of its Board. The company also adds two new directors to strengthen leadership.
Leadership Transition at Sompo International Holdings
Sompo has officially announced the appointment of Nicholas Walsh as Independent Non-Executive Chairman of the Board at Sompo International Holdings Ltd. (SIH). His appointment takes effect immediately.
Walsh succeeds James Shea, who became CEO of Sompo Property & Casualty last month. Shea continues in his role as CEO and Executive Director of SIH.
Nicholas Walsh Brings Five Decades of Industry Experience
Walsh joined the SIH Board in June 2022. He has more than 50 years of experience in the insurance industry. Most notably, he spent 42 years at AIG, where he held top roles including Vice Chairman of AIG Property and Casualty Inc., and CEO of AIG’s international general insurance business.
He currently serves on several boards, such as Endurance Worldwide Insurance Limited and McGill Global Solutions LLC. He also previously held board roles at Jardine Lloyd Thompson PLC and its U.S. subsidiaries.
New Board Appointments: Monica Cramér Manhem and Yoshihiro Uotani
Along with Walsh’s appointment, Sompo has also added two new directors to the SIH Board:
Monica Cramér Manhem – Independent Non-Executive Director
Cramér Manhem brings nearly 40 years of insurance and reinsurance experience. Since 2023, she has served as an Independent Non-Executive Director at SI Insurance (Europe), SA.
She was previously the CEO of SiriusPoint International and held senior roles at Sirius International since 1985.
Yoshihiro Uotani – Non-Executive Director
Uotani was appointed Senior Executive Vice President of Sompo Holdings in April 2025. He has served as Group Chief Risk Officer since 2021.
With over 35 years of experience in international insurance, Uotani has worked in Germany, the UK, the US, and Japan.
