Most travellers seek safety and financial protection amid rising costs. Over half will use credit card benefits for coverage.
Nearly nine out of ten Japanese travellers planning trips in 2025 say they will buy travel insurance, according to the first Allianz Partners Travel Index. This shows strong demand for insurance as travellers worry about safety and financial risks.
More than half of those planning to travel will get insurance through credit card benefits or buy it directly from travel websites. People with bigger travel budgets tend to prefer buying insurance directly, choosing more tailored or premium plans.
The survey, which included 1,000 Japanese adults, found that 62% do not plan to travel this year due to money issues. But those who do travel are careful in their planning. They use insurance to protect against risks like trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and lost luggage.
Older travellers, aged 50 and above, are especially worried about risks such as theft and accidents. They are more likely to buy full travel insurance to make their trips safer and smoother.
