Tokio Marine Vietnam Expands Safety Education Program

by Celia

Tokio Marine Insurance Vietnam (TMIV) has launched a series of safety education programs aimed at equipping the younger generation with essential skills to protect themselves from common risks like drowning, fire incidents, and natural disasters. The initiative also seeks to foster a safer community through hands-on learning and active participation.

Engaging Over 1,000 Students in Safety Education

On May 13 and 14, TMIV organized in-person safety sessions at Chu Van An High-Quality Secondary School and Nguyen Gia Thieu Secondary School in Hanoi’s Long Bien district, reaching more than 1,000 students. The sessions focused on two crucial topics: earthquake preparedness and drowning prevention, both of which have seen increasing concerns in recent years.

Addressing Drowning and Earthquake Risks

According to the Ministry of Health, more than 2,000 children in Vietnam lose their lives to drowning each year. To address this, TMIV conducted interactive discussions on drowning prevention and self-rescue swimming techniques. Students also learned how to respond during emergencies involving drowning victims. The program aimed to raise awareness of common causes of accidents and how to avoid them effectively.

The second topic, earthquake preparedness, received significant attention. Although earthquakes have not been a frequent issue in Vietnam, their global rise has made them a growing concern. Students engaged in practical exercises, learning about earthquake safety measures and how to act in various scenarios—whether at home, school, or in coastal areas with potential tsunami risks.

Expanding the Program’s Reach

This year marks the third consecutive year TMIV has conducted this initiative, reaching over 3,000 students in Hanoi alone. School leaders have praised the program for its value in preparing students to face potential dangers. Nguyen Anh Tuan, the principal of Chu Van An High-Quality Secondary School, expressed his gratitude, calling it a “meaningful and practical program that helps our students become more resilient in the face of life’s risks.”

Bui Thi Nguyen Ngoc, the vice principal of Nguyen Gia Thieu Secondary School, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of earthquake preparedness in the context of climate change and praising TMIV’s high-quality approach.

Extending Safety Education to Universities

TMIV has also extended its initiative to university students. A recent earthquake preparedness session at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) received enthusiastic participation, signaling the growing need for such programs among young adults as well.

Looking ahead, TMIV plans to continue rolling out community-based initiatives that focus on building a safer and healthier society. The company remains committed to sustainable development and the well-being of local communities, in line with its business philosophy of “Looking beyond profit.”
