The Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (IRCSL) has successfully launched its first-ever programme aimed at fostering closer ties between universities and the insurance industry.
The initiative is designed to enhance undergraduate education by aligning academic curricula with the evolving demands of the insurance sector. The ultimate goal is to build a stronger, more future-ready insurance industry in Sri Lanka.
One key objective of the programme is to strengthen the insurance sector by recognizing the important role academia plays in shaping its future. This includes supporting research, encouraging innovation, and cultivating a skilled talent pipeline.
The IRCSL emphasized the need for collaboration among regulators, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders to build a knowledge-driven and forward-looking insurance ecosystem.
The initiative was introduced following a proposal by IRCSL Chairman Ajith Raveendra De Mel. It brought together 15 senior academic staff members from eight universities, including the University of Colombo, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.
The Actuarial Association of Sri Lanka also participated in the programme, underscoring the broad support for this collaborative approach.
