A 65-year-old grandmother from Cheshire is facing hospital bills of over £27,000 after falling seriously ill during a family holiday in Egypt.
Margaret Houghton, from Warrington, had been enjoying a two-week getaway in Sharm El-Sheikh with her husband Dave, their daughter Kate, and three of her five grandchildren. But in the final week of the trip, Margaret developed pneumonia and had to be rushed to Sharm Peace Hospital for emergency treatment.
The family’s relief quickly turned to concern when they discovered their travel insurance would not cover the full cost of her medical care. Despite having paid £165 for the policy, the insurer refused to pay the entire bill.
Now, the family is left trying to figure out how to deal with the unexpected medical expenses, which have left them shocked and overwhelmed.
