Global insurer AXA has announced plans to re-domicile its China business to Hong Kong, aiming to simplify regulatory reporting and compliance.
As part of the plan, AXA Hong Kong and Macau will move AXA China Region Insurance Company (Bermuda) Limited (ACRIB) from Bermuda to Hong Kong. The change is being made under the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s new company re-domiciliation regime, and is currently awaiting regulatory approval.
The re-domiciliation will not impact ACRIB’s legal status, internal structure, or day-to-day operations. All existing agreements with policyholders, distributors, and business partners will remain unchanged.
After the move, ACRIB is expected to adopt a new name: AXA China Region Insurance Company (Hong Kong) Limited, reflecting its new operational base in the city.
AXA said the move will improve operational efficiency and better align the company’s registration with its actual business presence. It also supports Hong Kong’s position as a leading international financial centre.
Sally Wan, CEO of AXA Greater China, said:
“We are excited to be among the first to re-domicile to Hong Kong. This move is not merely administrative; it is a significant step forward in deepening our roots in Hong Kong and simplifying our reporting and compliance processes.”
She added that AXA aims to benefit from Hong Kong’s strong financial system and growing reputation as a hub for insurance and global risk management.
“We look forward to capturing new opportunities in the region and achieving greater success in the future,” Wan said.
The announcement comes shortly after AXA Hong Kong and Macau partnered with Ant Bank and AlipayHK to offer insurance products directly through the AlipayHK App, further expanding its digital distribution.
