The Lufthansa Group announced Monday it will extend the suspension of all flights to and from Israel until June 15, citing continued instability in the Middle East. The decision affects Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings.
In a statement, the group said, “Lufthansa Group regrets the inconvenience caused to its customers due to the situation and continues to monitor developments in the Middle East closely. Passenger and crew safety remains our top priority.” Customers with affected flights can rebook or cancel their tickets free of charge.
The German airline joins a growing number of carriers halting travel to Israel due to ongoing security concerns. Air France has suspended flights through May 26, while British Airways has extended its suspension until July 31.
However, not all carriers are maintaining suspensions. Greece’s Aegean Airlines resumed flights to Israel last Wednesday after halting operations at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport earlier this month following a Houthi missile strike.
Meanwhile, Israeli airline Arkia announced it will begin weekly direct flights to the Seychelles on June 20. This move comes after Air Seychelles canceled its Israel-bound routes through August.
Delta Air Lines also resumed its daily nonstop flights between New York’s JFK Airport and Tel Aviv last Monday. The U.S. airline stated that its decision followed a thorough risk assessment. “Delta continues to monitor regional developments and adjusts operations according to security guidance and intelligence reports,” the company said.
