Travelers is selling its Canadian personal insurance business and most of its Canadian commercial insurance business for about $2.4 billion, the company announced.
The Travelers Companies Inc., founded in Hartford and known as the largest surety writer in North America, signed an agreement to sell these businesses to Definity Financial Corp.
The deal is expected to close in early 2026, after receiving regulatory approvals and meeting usual closing conditions.
This announcement follows Travelers’ report of a $1.7 billion loss from the Los Angeles wildfires in the first quarter of 2025. Despite the loss, the company still made a profit. In 2024, Travelers earned more than $46 billion in revenue, the release said.
