The Douglas County Health Department announced on Thursday that clients with Health Alliance insurance will now be required to pay out of pocket for services, effective immediately. This follows Carle Health’s announcement that its healthcare plans through Health Alliance, including Medicare Advantage, will end by the end of the year.
Amanda Minor, Douglas County Health Department Administrator, explained that the department has been working since last fall to maintain credentialing with Health Alliance, but clients have already been paying cash upfront while the department submitted claims for possible reimbursement. Going forward, those with Health Alliance should expect to cover all costs themselves.
Clients may complete an income sheet to determine eligibility for the department’s sliding fee scale, which helps reduce costs based on income. However, the sliding fee scale does not apply to labs, immunizations, the nail clinic, or certain nurse practitioner services.
